Frequently asked questions
Why will nothing open my WebP file?
WebP is well supported by browsers but not by every desktop application, and some older photo editors, printers and social platforms still reject it. Converting to JPG solves that, since JPG is supported essentially everywhere.
What happens to transparency?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep a transparent background, convert to PNG instead.
Will the JPG be larger than the WebP?
Usually yes. WebP is a more efficient format, so a JPG at comparable quality is typically 25-35% larger. You are trading file size for compatibility.
Does converting lose quality?
Slightly. Both formats are lossy, so re-encoding discards a little detail. At 90% quality this is generally not visible at normal viewing size.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored or transmitted.
