WebP keeps PNG transparency but produces far smaller files. It is usually the best format for web graphics that need a transparent background.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP keep PNG transparency?
Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas are preserved exactly. This is the main reason to choose WebP over JPG for logos, icons and graphics.
How much smaller will the file be?
PNG to WebP commonly saves 60-90% for photographic content and 20-50% for flat graphics. The more colours and detail the PNG contains, the bigger the saving.
Is WebP lossy or lossless?
WebP supports both. This tool produces lossy WebP, which gives much smaller files at a quality level you control. At 90% the difference is usually invisible.
Will text and sharp edges stay crisp?
At high quality settings, yes. If you are converting a screenshot with small text and notice softening, raise the quality slider - or keep PNG, which is lossless by design.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored or transmitted.
