Frequently asked questions
Is the converted PNG lossless?
The conversion step itself is lossless - PNG stores every pixel exactly as it was decoded. However, detail that the original JPG already discarded cannot be recovered, since JPG compression is lossy to begin with.
Why is my PNG larger than the original JPG?
This is expected. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, while PNG is lossless. For a photo, the PNG is often several times larger. PNG is the better choice when you need transparency or crisp edges, such as logos, screenshots and line art.
Will converting to PNG give my image transparency?
No. PNG supports transparency, but a JPG has no transparency data to begin with, so the result is fully opaque. To actually remove a background you need a background removal tool.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored or transmitted.
Is there a limit on image size?
Files up to 30 MB are supported. Because processing is local, very large images may take longer on older phones.
