Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo appear sideways in some apps but not others?
Phone cameras usually store the photo unrotated and record the orientation in EXIF metadata. Apps that ignore that tag show the image sideways. This tool reads the EXIF orientation and bakes the correct rotation into the pixels, so the result looks right everywhere.
Does rotating lose quality?
Rotating by 90, 180 or 270 degrees does not resample the pixels, so no detail is lost geometrically. However, saving a JPG re-encodes it, which discards a small amount of detail. Raise the quality slider if that matters, or use PNG.
What is the difference between rotating and flipping?
Rotating turns the image around its centre. Flipping mirrors it, producing a reversed image - useful for selfies, which many phone cameras save mirrored.
Can I rotate by an arbitrary angle, like 5 degrees?
Not with this tool. It handles quarter turns and flips, which cover the common case of a photo saved in the wrong orientation. Arbitrary angles require resampling and leave empty corners that have to be cropped or filled.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Rotation happens in your browser. Your image never leaves your device and nothing is stored or transmitted.
